Bolsonaro has been arrested after authorities concluded he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.
The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a military coup in September and handed more than a 27-year term in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.
High Court Judge the presiding justice said the action to imprison the septuagenarian politician was a preventative measure after fresh information were revealed.
This involved attempting to break his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.
Legal Document Reveals Flight Fears
In a document approving the custody, the magistrate said intelligence from the unit overseeing the former president's confinement suggested the one-time head of state's aim to disable the surveillance device to secure accomplishment in his getaway".
This, it said, would be made easier by the disorder caused by the gathering called by his offspring.
His offspring, Flávio, who holds office as a congressional representative, called for a meeting of his backers near Bolsonaro's home to take place on Saturday night.
The senator wrote on online platforms on Friday: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I call on you to battle with us."
He said the gathering would be so followers could seek divine intervention for his health and for the reestablishment of democratic governance in our nation."
Foreign Shelter Risks
Part of Justice Moraes's decision was the potential of his move to embassies near the home, considering that the probes revealed a history of organizing to ask for protection through a consular facility", a announcement said.
The court filing highlights that the US embassy in the capital, Brasilia, is situated around approximately 13 kilometers from his dwelling.
International Reactions
Bolsonaro's legal woes have provoked anger from fellow right-wing populist American leader Trump, leading him to enact a fifty percent tax on Brazilian product imports.
He is being kept in a national police facility in Brasilia and will experience a detention review on the next day.
Recent Judicial Appeals
It was only on Friday that the his legal team asked the Top Court to allow him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with digital surveillance.
They also asked that he be authorized to depart his residence for healthcare, saying he demanded frequent medical attention for lung conditions and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict
He was determined responsible of orchestrating a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he failed to win the 2022 election to his left-wing rival, Lula.
Top judicial officials said that he knew of a plot which included plans to murder Lula and his vice-presidential running mate, his vice-presidential candidate, and to arrest and execute Alexandre de Moraes - the Supreme Court justice who has been overseeing Bolsonaro's trial.
The plot was stopped because it failed to get the backing of the armed forces officials. The current president was inaugurated without issue on 1 January 2023.
But a week later, on 8 January, numerous Bolsonaro supporters attacked and damaged government buildings in the federal district, Brasília.
The law enforcement took action and around 1,500 people were detained.
The justices found that the protesters had been incited by the former president whose scheme, they said, was for the Brazilian military to take action, restore order and reinstate his authority.
At the moment, the legal team called the decades-long sentence unreasonably severe".
He was also banned from running for public office until the year 2060 - a decade minus two years after the conclusion of his imprisonment.
The one-time head of state called the legal proceedings a "witch hunt and said it was intended to stop him running in the next presidential race.
